Thursday morning, Sept. 16th, we began our first temple tour. We toured the Temple of Hathor at Denderra. Hathor was often depicted as a cow and is shown as having cow ears. Thus it is easy to identify her head which is reproduced on the capitals of the columns. Included in the temple complex is the sacred lake where the priests purified themselves before any rites and a chapel to Horus, Hathor's husband. You can still see the mud brick wall surrounding the temple. After the temple tour, the ship headed south again, back to Luxor. We spent the afternoon recovering from our morning in the desert and in the evening attended the sound and light show at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor.
