Out last day in St. Petersburg, and last day in Russia, was spent at the Peterhof Palace, started by Peter the Great as a simple summer home and expanded greatly by his daughter Elizabeth to the beautiful palace, grounds and fountains that are seen today. This palace was essentially destroyed by the Nazis during WWII and has been restored (and is still in the process of restoration) ever since.
