From the Citadel, we went to the Khan el-Khalili bazaar to spend any money that we might have remaining. If you're heading to the bazaar, Manal is the one to take with you. She can locate anything and bargain a good price for you faster than you can turn around. The day ended with dinner and a show at the Rameses Hilton. The dinner and the show were entirely Egyptian and very enjoyable. Thursday, the 23rd was spent packing and lazing around. We headed to the airport Friday morning for our flight back to the US. We reached JFK at about 2:30PM and by 3:30 we were boarding our final flight to Baltimore.

We were able to enter the inside of the mountain and it was an amazing accomplishment. After this tour, we boarded the plane and headed back to Cairo. We checked into the Marriot again about 7:30PM.

The day concluded with a sunset sail on the Nile in a felucca. A felucca is a one-man powered sail boat. Our one man worked very hard, but the wind abated and our boat became stranded. However with the help of a passing motor boat we were able to return to the ship in time for dinner.

We traveled into the mountains and saw a granite quarry. We also saw an unfinished obelisk. As it was being formed, a crack developed so it was abandoned there. Next we visited the new Aswan High Dam. The construction of this dam created Lake Nassar. The creation of the lake endangered a number of temples. We visited the temple of Philae, which had been moved to a neighboring island close to its original location.
